Junior Operator License (JOL) Drivers:

• All students under the age of 18 must complete 12 hours of behind-the-wheel driving with a professional driving instructor. 

• In Massachusetts, applicants for a Junior Operator License (JOL) must be 16½ to 18 years old, hold a valid learner's permit for at least 6 consecutive months, maintain a clean driving record, complete an approved driver education program, and log 40 hours of supervised driving (or 30 with a skills program). 

• Each lesson is 1-2 hour long. 

• All completed lessons will include notes provided by the instructor, including: 

  • What was practiced during the lesson  

  • Maneuvers that still need practice  

• Instructor feedback to help with at-home driving  

  • All lessons must be signed off on the drive sheet and in the student portal by the student. 

• Each lesson will start and end at the same meeting point, unless previously agreed.
