All students under the age of 18 must complete 12 hours of behind-the-wheel driving with a professional driving instructor.
In Massachusetts, applicants for a Junior Operator License (JOL) must be 16½ to 18 years old, hold a valid learner's permit for at least 6 consecutive months, maintain a clean driving record, complete an approved driver education program, and log 40 hours of supervised driving (or 30 with a skills program).
Each lesson is 1-2 hour long.
All completed lessons will include notes provided by the instructor, including:
What was practiced during the lesson
Maneuvers that still need practice
Instructor feedback to help with at-home driving
All lessons must be signed off on the drive sheet and in the student portal by the student.
Each lesson will start and end at the same meeting point, unless previously agreed.
